American Railways launched an initiative to pay tribute to COVID19 frontline workers
During the New Corona Virus pandemic, residents of many
cities expressed their gratitude and support to the medical staff and other
workers who rushed to the frontline of the war. For example, in Spain last
month, people opened their windows and cheered for medical care. Now, although
the number of U.S. railroad passengers has decreased significantly, Amtrak
hopes that train and bus drivers will respond to the #SoundTheHorn initiative
to encourage important workers in the transportation and other fields that
fight COVID-19.
Amtrak said it was coordinating with the New York
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), New Jersey NJ Transit, Pennsylvania
’s Southeastern Transportation Agency (SEPTA), and West Coast Metrolink and AC
Transit.
COVID19 Effect
As part of the #SoundTheHorn series initiative, Amtrak issued
a whistle lasting one second and two consecutive times at 3:00 PM EDT on the
same day, and shared this short video on the Vimeo platform.
Although it is only a small move, Amtrak hopes that this move
will encourage morale and give the workers who stay on the front line of
transportation to get the attention and support they deserve.
It is reported that COVID-19 and the death of 59 MTA
employees and a few SPETA and NJ Transit employees, so this transportation
company is not only facing financial suffering, but a lot.
