Lianhua Qingwen Effective for Treatment of New Coronary Pneumonia

The Ministry of Chinese Foreign Affairs and the National Health and Welfare Commission jointly invited Zhong Nanshan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, to answer questions for international students.

Zhong Nanshan said that there is sufficient evidence to prove that Lianhua Qingwen is effective for the treatment of new coronary pneumonia.

"I just finished an experiment (the result) and it will be published soon. For the first time, there is very sufficient evidence in the world to prove that it (Lianhua Qingwen) is effective and can help patients recover." Zhong Nanshan said.

 

Zhong Nanshan also sent messages to international students: "It is good for us to experience some setbacks and hardships. I have been graduating from college for nearly 60 years. In fact, I get the most from the setbacks, not from the success."

 

Lianhua Qingwen has a good repair effect

According to Zhong Nanshan, the ingredients of Lianhua Qingwen Capsules include Maxing Shigan Decoction, plus safflower. This experiment has been done more seriously.

In vitro experiments found that Lianhua Qingwen Capsule has some inhibitory effect on the virus, but it is very weak. But its benefit is that Lianhua Qingwen has a good repair effect on cell damage and inflammation caused by virus.

 

Lianhua Qingwen Capsule has the following effects

First, the patient's symptoms improved faster after taking it, two days earlier than the control group.

Second, the patient's CT film recovered faster than the control group.

Third, there is a significant difference in the decrease in body temperature of patients, and there is a time for fever to shorten.

However, whether the virus turned negative after taking it was shortened from the control, but there was no significant difference.

More than 80% of the patients are ordinary new crown patients, and Lianhua Qingwen Capsule is more suitable for ordinary new crown pneumonia patients.

Disapproval of group immunization, which will sacrifice many people

Zhong Nanshan expressed his disapproval of "group immunization", saying that it would be possible to sacrifice many talents.

He said that 20% of people in Europe have antibodies, and the highest reported is 25%. This number is far from the so-called group immunity.

This disease (New Coronary Pneumonia) is generally immunized. It usually takes 6 to 70% of people to become infected. This is now possible, but now more than 20% is far from being reached. I don't quite agree with this approach.

Many people have to be sacrificed. Even 1% is more than ten to twenty times higher than the flu, and even one hundred times.

If you are 2%, 3%, that is even more terrible, because you have to sacrifice a lot of people to get group immunity. I don't think this method is feasible. We have many ways.

The sequelae of new coronary pneumonia are not large

Zhong Nanshan said that in foreign countries, self-protection is extremely important. Foreign countries are facing heavier economic pressures. Chinese people save some money at home.

In SARS 17 years ago, some patients still had pulmonary fibrosis six months to a year later. The fibrosis of patients with new crowns is not too heavy and seems reversible.

We have performed lung function tests on more than 100 patients, and they have not returned to normal levels, but it seems that the damage will not be too great and will gradually recover, so the sequelae are not great.

 

The new coronavirus is so contagious that it was unexpected

Zhong Nanshan said that he did not know the new coronavirus at the beginning, especially because it was highly contagious, which was unexpected.

The views and practices on infectious diseases are different between China and the West, but this one is consistent. Everyone realizes that (New Coronavirus) is very contagious.

 

In terms of infectiousness index, the general influenza is 1, SARS is close to 2, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is 1.5, and New Coronavirus is 3.

 

For the treatment of new coronary pneumonia, there is no great breakthrough at present, but many adjuvant treatment methods have been developed. It is not easy to find major drugs during this period. The best way to prevent and cure is to keep a distance and wear a mask.

The fatality rate in the United States is very high

Zhong Nanshan said that the United States increases more than 20,000 confirmed cases every day, but there is a problem. The mortality rate in the United States is very high, reaching 6%. At that time, Wuhan City reached 6% and 7% in the early days, but less than 1% of the country.

The biggest feature of China's anti-epidemic is the "four early" measures to the community and individuals

Zhong Nanshan said that during the special anti-epidemic period, the epidemic situation in mainland China has stabilized for more than a month. Most overseas countries are in the first stage, and even a few countries have been on the rise.

 

As China, the biggest feature is that the "four early" measures go to the community and everyone. Early detection, early diagnosis, early isolation, early treatment, the most critical thing is self-protection. East Asia, including South Korea, Japan, and Singapore, is doing well in the "four early" measures.

 

International students don’t need to be the same, nor do they need to go to the country

Zhong Nanshan said that gusty weather will not increase the spread of the virus. The virus cannot reach a certain concentration in the air and will not spread. However, due to snowfall and strong winds, everyone staying in the house may increase the spread of the virus.

 

How to protect foreign students abroad? According to Zhong Nanshan, personal opinion, do not need people to follow the cloud, nor do you need to go to the village to follow the customs.

International students need to know how to protect themselves. We have the Chinese approach. Don’t be embarrassed. You must wear masks in public places such as supermarkets. Protection is the most important thing, don't look at people's different opinions.

In fact, China has some correct practices that have driven other countries.
